How To Replace A RAM Flat Tire?

A Comprehensive Guide to Changing a Flat Tire on Your RAM Vehicle

Experiencing a flat tire on your RAM truck can be inconvenient, but knowing how to replace it yourself can save time and hassle. In this guide, we'll provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to change a flat tire on your RAM vehicle, ensuring you're prepared for unexpected roadside situations.

  1. Safety First

Before you begin, ensure your safety and the safety of others by following these initial steps:

  • Park your RAM in a safe, level area away from traffic.
  • Engage the parking brake to prevent any movement.
  • Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers.
  • Retrieve your vehicle's spare tire, jack, lug wrench, and a flashlight (if needed).
  1. Locate and Identify the Flat Tire

Walk around your RAM and identify the flat tire. Ensure you can safely access it without putting yourself in harm's way.

  1. Remove the Hubcap or Wheel Cover (If Applicable)

If your RAM has a hubcap or wheel cover covering the lug nuts, use the flat end of the lug wrench or a screwdriver to gently pry it off.

  1. Loosen the Lug Nuts

Using the lug wrench, loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire. Don't remove them completely; just break their resistance.

  1. Position the Jack

Locate the designated jacking points on your RAM (refer to your owner's manual if unsure) and place the jack under the vehicle. Ensure the jack is secure and positioned correctly.

  1. Lift the Vehicle

Carefully pump the jack to raise your RAM off the ground until the flat tire is about an inch above the surface. Avoid putting any body parts under the vehicle during this process.

  1. Remove the Flat Tire

Now, fully remove the lug nuts and take off the flat tire. Place it aside but keep it nearby.

  1. Install the Spare Tire

Lift the spare tire onto the wheel hub and align the holes with the wheel bolts. Hand-tighten the lug nuts to secure the spare in place.

  1. Tighten the Lug Nuts

Using the lug wrench, gradually tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure. This prevents the spare tire from wobbling.

  1. Lower the Vehicle

Carefully lower your RAM using the jack until it's back on the ground. Remove the jack from under the vehicle.

  1. Final Lug Nut Tightening

With the vehicle on the ground, use the lug wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. Ensure they are secure.

  1. Replace the Hubcap or Wheel Cover (If Applicable)

If your RAM had a hubcap or wheel cover, gently snap it back into place.

  1. Check Tire Pressure

Using a tire pressure gauge, check the pressure in the spare tire. Inflate it to the recommended PSI if needed.

  1. Stow the Flat Tire and Tools

Put the flat tire, jack, lug wrench, and any other tools back in their designated storage areas.

Changing a flat tire on your RAM is a valuable skill that can get you back on the road quickly. Remember to have your flat tire repaired or replaced as soon as possible, and regularly check your spare tire's condition and pressure to ensure it's always ready for use in case of emergencies.
