Sedan shoppers have two outstanding options to choose from in Chrysler's 2017 lineup: the midsize 200 and the 300, which is classified as a large car. Here's how these 2017 Chrysler sedans compare with one another.

Performance

The Chrysler 200 comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine providing 184-horsepower, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Drivers who opt for the Limited Platinum, 200S, and 200C Platinum models will enjoy the added power of a 295-hp 3.6-liter V6, also with a nine-speed automatic. The EPA estimates fuel economy of 19/31 city/highway miles per gallon with the V6 and 19/31 with the base engine. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available on all trims.

The larger Chrysler 300 is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 292 horsepower (300 horsepower in the 300S model). This car is also available with 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that makes 363 horsepower. At the pump, you'll get 16/25 city/highway mpg with the V8 and 19/30 with the base engine.

Appearance

When it comes to appearance, size is the primary difference for these cars, with the 300 offering additional cargo space and expansive head and legroom in the rear seat. Both Chryslers are renowned for their high-quality, refined interiors and generous feature packages, including 10-way adjustable front seats and 60/40 split-folding rear seats. The 200 comes standard with push-button start, proximity key, a rearview camera, and a four-speaker stereo system with auxiliary input and USB connectivity. With the 300, you'll also enjoy premium Nappa leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming, an additional USB input, and the Uconnect infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto (available on higher trims of the 200).

Safety

The Chrysler 200 is one of the safest models in its class, earning a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute on Highway Safety (IIHS). THe 300 earns four stars overall from the NHTSA (five stars in the side crash category) and the highest ranking in four out of five IIHS crash test categories.

Both Chrysler sedans are available with a range of advanced driver assistance technology, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep and parking assist, smart windshield wipers, and automatic high beams. The 300 is also available with both front and rear parking sensors.
